SLR Lounge shows you all of the gear it takes for them to shoot their typical portrait sessions. For off-camera lighting they use Plus®X Transceivers or Plus® III Transceivers. “We typically carry 3 or more of these on a shoot, one mounted on the camera and 2 on off-camera flashes. These reliable remotes are extremely important to us because off camera lighting is an important aspect to our style of photography.”
In this article and video review, presented by SLR Lounge, Pye Jirsa explains how the Plus III earned so much love. Part of what won photographers over were improvements made to the build: the antenna is safely tucked within the body, the hot shoe mount is made of a sturdier material, and the LCD screen displays remaining battery life. On top of that, the Plus III includes new features, like Quad-Zone triggering, while being less expensive than its predecessor.
Having tried all kinds of other triggers, he concludes, “We don’t mess around when it comes to radio triggers. We need to make sure that they’re firing and they’re firing consistently. We don’t want to miss any shots and that’s why we use the Plus III’s at the studio.”
At a wedding in Newport Beach, California, a couple with a flair for the dramatic planned for their first dance to be under an outdoor rotunda, overlooking the landscape below. How to get the shot?
The team at Lin and Jirsa Photography tries a couple of different options, but end up hiding a speedlight behind one of the columns of the rotunda. Using a PocketWizard Plus® III allowed all of their second shooters to trigger the same speedlight from different locations, meaning they ended up with a variety of types of shots from the same, simple setup.
